Install in 5 steps

Download the .exe
Click the button above. Keep the file — you can re-run it to update.

Open it
Double-click the installer. If SmartScreen appears, don’t close it — follow the bypass on the right.

Bypass SmartScreen
Click “More info” → “Run anyway”. This is expected until releases are code-signed.

Add one API key
Settings → paste a Groq, OpenAI, Gemini, or OpenRouter key. Stored in Credential Manager.

Hold F8 and speak
Click any text field, hold F8, speak, release. Text pastes at your cursor.
Bypass checklist
- Blue dialog says “Windows protected your PC” — click More info.
- Publisher shows Unknown — click Run anyway.
- Flunkey opens to onboarding. Pin it, then add your key.

If paste doesn’t work
- Run the app once as admin if a game/elevated app blocks paste.
- Remap hotkeys in Settings if F8/F9/F10 clash.
- Check mic permission + provider key balance.
Yes. Flunkey is free and MIT open-source. You only pay your own voice/AI provider usage (Groq, OpenAI, Gemini, or OpenRouter) if those providers bill you.
The installer is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen flags unknown publishers. Click More info → Run anyway. This warning will go away once releases are signed.
Windows 10/11 64-bit, a microphone, WebView2 (preinstalled on most systems), and at least one provider API key.
Create one with Groq (Whisper Turbo is a great default), OpenAI, Gemini, or OpenRouter. Paste it in Flunkey Settings — it is stored in Windows Credential Manager, never in a file.
