Troubleshooting

Diagnose in order: input (mic) → intelligence (key/provider) → output (paste). Most issues live in exactly one layer.

Microphone

Windows Settings → Privacy → Microphone: allow desktop apps
Set the right input device; USB headsets often steal default status
If the pill never lights on hold, the hotkey is not reaching Flunkey — see Shortcuts conflicts

“Key rejected” → re-paste from the provider dashboard; stray spaces break keys
“Quota / billing” → check provider balance; Flunkey never bills you itself
“Vault unavailable” → Credential Manager service disabled or locked down by policy; Flunkey fails closed by design — re-enable the service
Slow answers → try another provider/model; F9 quality and latency follow your key
OpenRouter STT errors are expected — it serves text models only; set STT to Groq/OpenAI/Gemini

Nothing pastes → click into a real text field first; pill “Working” with no result usually means provider error
Wrong window → Flunkey pastes where focus was at release; keep focus steady
Admin apps / games → elevation mismatch; run Flunkey elevated or paste manually
Clipboard not restored → report it: app, OS build, and whether the target was Electron, terminal, or browser
Didn’t catch that after a tap → you spoke too briefly; hold that bit longer
Select some text first → highlight first (12k char max), then hold F10

Overlay missing → it opens beside the active window; check other monitors and virtual desktops
Overlay off-screen → Settings → position Right + Free OFF resets it
No sounds → they initialize on boot and WebView2 allows autoplay by default; check system output device
Pill stuck visible → press Esc; if persistent, restart from the tray
No sounds → system volume / output device; sounds are the cheapest diagnostic Flunkey has
